Amazon Jungle (via Puerto Maldonado)

We get up early again, this time for a short flight to Puerto Maldonada. From there we went on a two hour boat trip to the resort.

The night before, Carla advises to pack lightly for this trip as it's going to be "35C and humid".

Well, we arrived and it was 15C and not humid. Apparently the weather here runs in a 10 day cycle from 40C and humid to 15C and mild. The previous day was the top of the cycle and the weather managed to change abruptly in one day. Adelaide weather is quite variable but the Peruvian Amazon region takes first prize!

Every one was cold and grumbling, but most of us had a weather-proof jacket on hand.

Over the two days we spent here, we went for a few guided walks in the jungle, floated around a lagoon in a row boat and saw some typical jungle flora and fauna. I was never sure upfront what each excursion entailed, so I didn't bring my camera. In hindsight this was overly cautious and I missed some good photo opportunities.

One highlight was a "sing-a-long" in Ellie and Nina's hut. There were ten of us piled into the room; the girls sang and Andy played the guitar.
