Cuzco

After our second stay at Arequipa, we fly to Cuzco. This city becomes our new base for the next week or so; we return to it twice over this period.

The Spanish often built on top of Inca sites or even on top of individual Inca built walls. The Incas were excellent stone masons and the Spanish pressed them into action on new buildings of Spanish design.

Kirsten and Ewa check out the posh hotel, just a stone's throw from our 3 star.

I don't think there's Social Security in Peru: so no job means no income. For this street entertainer the street intersections are his office.

There are a lot of stray dogs in Peru - there doesn't see to be a dog catcher. The concept of "civic pride" is a distant dream. This donkey was wandering around too but I presume the owner is letting him munch out between jobs.

View over Cuzco (the main square is to the right in the middle). Not far from here, a little higher up the hill are some Inca ruins (Sacsayhuaman, which is almost pronounced as "sexy woman").
