Ica - Huacachina Sand Dunes

After the boating jaunt we continued in the bus to Ica. We messed around in the nearby sand dunes and had lunch.

As I buckled myself in (a harness, not a conventional seatbelt) I noticed that the badass dude at the wheel of the badass buggy also had badass pedals. What are we in for, I wondered?

Here Peter explains what happens, should the buggy take a roll.

In the buggies, we hooned up and down the 100m+ high dunes. Out of the buggies we sand-boarded down several dunes. All good mindless fun.

Lima, Pisco and most of the cities we visited lie on the plains between the coast and the Andes Mountains. Very little if any rain falls. If you want a tree or some lawn then manual watering is the only option. The water is piped in from the mountains. The Incan (and pre-Incan) civilisations built a lot of the aquaducts.
