[En route to] La Paz

From Puno, we take a long bus trip to La Paz. La Paz is in Bolivia so this requires a border crossing.

It's apparent the Bolivian Immigration system is a bit creaky and some currency is required to oil the wheels. Carla pays 10 units to an Immigration official and we each pay 1 unit to a scruffy guy who hops on the bus for 2 minutes, several hundred metres past the checkpoint.

We are still near the perimeter of Lake Titicaca and we stop at a lake-side town for lunch. It's Copacabana - the Bolivian town, not the more famous beach-side area in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rather than trace the perimeter of Lake Titicaca to reach La Paz, we take a short cut across Lake Titicaca. There's a narrow point in the lake, known as the Straits of Tiquina. We cross over the water, a distance of 800m. We bounce over as passengers in a small boat. The bus takes a precarious-looking trip in a rough-hewn ferry.

We continue in the bus the rest of the way to La Paz.

We check out the markets near the hotel and have a late dinner with the group. This is where the "Adelaide 4" leave the group; we head to Buenos Aires whereas the group stay on in La Paz. The Tucan tour eventually finishes in Rio, nearly two weeks after we return back to Adelaide.
