Lake Titicaca - Taquile

Carla advises that our "limousines have arrived". It's 8am as we step outside the hotel to see a line of pedal-powered rick-shaws. We clamber aboard for the 20 minute ride to Puno's port. We then board a motor boat for the 2 hour trip to the first island in our schedule: Taquile.

Life on Taquile is rural - farming, fishing and cottage industry. Although it's on an island, the modest buildings and civic infrastructure are better maintained than most of what I've seen on the mainland.

We visit what appears to be a private house, make our up to the rooftop / balcony then sit down for a first class lunch of local trout and rough-cut potato chips.

The guide for this excursion, Hernades ("Ernie") explains the ins-and-outs of Lake Titicaca, Taquile and the woollen caps worn by the men.

After lunch, we wander down to the marina on the other side of the island and head off to our next stop: Amantani Island.
