Arequipa - Santa Cantalina Convent

Built by the Spanish, this convent was a no-go zone except for the nuns living here. In the 1970's the remaining nuns were reassigned to a small section of the convent and the general public was allowed in for tours.

The general look of the place and all the artefacts are original, many date back to the 16th Century. Very much the opposite of our fresh-faced tour guide Claudia.

After several hours wandering around, we headed for the convent's cafe. The lemon cheesecake and chocolate mudcake are delicious. And our tour guide wasn't too shabby either.
